Your time is valuable and you should spend it wisely by leveraging your strengths in order to maximize your business success. Is it possible for you to create your own website using the material that I discuss in this blog, absolutely, but unless you a) have the extra time to learn a new skill and b) enjoy tinkering around with new technology just for the fun of it, then creating your website on your own is not the best investment of your time and energy.
Some people really like to do things themselves. I have a friend who does all of his own auto work, he lays tile, refinishes cabinets, you name it he can do it, but in his day job he runs a food science lab while pursuing his doctorate. He does those things because he can and he enjoys it. I have to bite my tongue from cursing out a blue streak in front of my kids when changing out a sink faucet or a light fixture. I have a nice feeling of satisfaction when I complete a handy-man project, but it is painful getting there. House work like that is certainly not my strength and I won’t even touch my car. I can change my oil, but I don’t. I pay someone who has the right equipment and can do it fast. We had to replace a toilet last year and I didn’t even hesitate about calling a plumber to do it.
My point is that we are all better off if we are working in our strengths, doing the things that we are good at and we enjoy doing. I love doing web development and marketing. It energizes me. It gets me up in the morning. If that doesn’t describe you, then let someone pay you to work in the things that make you excited and pay someone else to handle your web site design and marketing.
